Another 718 soldiers were wounded during the period, Minister Tariq Shah Bahrami said addressing the Senate. 43 soldiers were captured by militants during the period, he said.
The minister said that last month was deadliest for the Afghan army.
He, however, said that militants suffered four-fold casualties (2,270) last month.
According to Bahrami, the Afghan forces lack air support during the nights when they come under attack by the militants.
Heavy clashes between Taliban insurgents and Afghan forces across the country this year, as well as suicide attacks in Kabul and other major cities, have underscored the dire security situation facing Afghanistan.
Some politicians have also called for review of U.S.
“Why are you not telling us the truth. The U.S. created a strategy but it is not implementing it. You signed security with the U.S. but you are not following up,” Senator Zalmai Zabuli told the security ministers.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Wais Ahmad Barmak, said that militants stepped up their attacks to undermine U.S. strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia that was announced last year.
