In a statement, OIC cited recent attacks in Afghanistan’s Ghazni city, which result in yet another episode of “senseless death and devastation.”The organization's Secretary-GeneralYousuf Al Othaimeen expressed growing concern on ever rising collateral casualties among civilian population.
“There can be no military solution in Afghanistan,” Othaimeen said. “Time is long overdue for a lasting political settlement. Muslim Ummah expects and hopes that the Afghan government’s unconditional offer for a negotiated solution finds response among the armed opposition.”
He said that OIC has issued numerous calls to Afghan parties, the latest in holy city of Makkah through the Final Declaration of the International Ulema Conference on Peace and Security in Afghanistan last month, inviting all concerned to make use of the current window of opportunity for brining honourable and lasting peace in Afghanistan through dialogue and reconciliation.
