Afghan army launches Walid-9 military operations in Balkh province
The Afghan armed forces launched a new operation, Walid-9 operations, to suppress the anti-government armed militants in northern Balkh province of Afghanistan.
The 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan Military in the North said the operations kicked off today at 6 am in Chamtal district.
A statement by Shaheen Corps said the operations were launched from Yangi Qala, Shor Aba, and Jar Qala areas of the district and as a result at least two militants have been killed so far.
The statement further added at least four militants also sustained injuries during the clashes with the Afghan forces.
The Shaheen Corps of the Afghan military says the district will be fully cleared from the presence of the anti-government armed militants during the Walid-9 operations.
The anti-government armed militant groups including Taliban militants have not commented regarding the report so far.
Balkh is among the relatively calm provinces in North of Afghanistan where fewer security related incidents have taken place since the fall of the Taliban regime.
However, the anti-government armed militants have been attempting to expand their foothold and destabilize the province during the recent months and years.
