New transformer boosts Nangarhar’s electricity transmission to 76 megawatts
The officials in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan are saying that the activation of a new transformer has boosted the transmission capacity to the province to 76 megawatts.
Provincial governor Hayatullah Hayat said the fourth transformer was activated after its repair, bearing a cost of 3.5 million US Dollars.
He said the activation of the transformer will resolve the issues of power supply shortages to the residents and industrial parks in this province.
The head of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (State-owned power firm) said Nangarhar will also receive electricity imported from Tajikistan as the transmission line supplying electricity has been connected with Nangarhar as well.
In the meantime, the construction of solar power facility having a capacity of 100 megawatts of electricity production has also kicked off in Rodat district with the officials saying the private sector can also take part and invest in the construction of the facility.
The acting minister of water and energy Engineer Mohammad Gul Khulmi said based on the instructions of President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani the government has stepped up efforts to resolve the issues surrounding the supply of electricity to all provinces of the country.
He said the activation of a transformer and inauguration of the construction of solar power facility are the examples of the ongoing efforts to resolve the issues regarding the supply of electricity.
