Islamabad reacts at Kabul’s stance regarding FATA-KP merger
Islamabad reacted at the stance of the Afghan government regarding the decision to merge Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan Dr. Mohammad Faisal said “Our parliament’s decision reflects the will of the people of Pakistan.”
“The principles of non-interference and non-intervention in the conduct of bilateral relations need be scrupulously adhered to by Afghanistan,” Dr. Faisal added.
This comes as the Afghan government earlier declared its stance regarding the proposed merger of Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, emphasizing that the issue must be resolved in the light of regional residents consensus.
The office of the President, ARG Palace, in a statement said the Afghan government has repeatedly shared its concerns through diplomatic channels with Pakistan and International Community regarding the unilateral moves along the Durand Line and particularly in Federally Administered Tribal Areas.
The statement further adds that any military and political approach without bilateral consultation regarding the tribal regions would be as unilateral and against the 1921 agreement between British India and Afghanistan.
