Top Commander: Iran, Afghanistan to Boost Cooperation in Anti-Terror Fight
Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri underlined that Tehran and Kabul are resolved to boost their cooperation in the ongoing campaign against the terrorist groups.
AVA- "The shared backgrounds between the two countries of Iran and Afghanistan, including religion and language, have brought them together in such way that no obstacle can undermine their close relations, especially in combatting the terrorist groups," General Baqeri said during his meeting with the visiting Afghan Defense Minister Tariq Shah Bahrami in Tehran on Sunday morning.
The top Iranian commander, meantime, said that his country has spared no effort to help restore security and stability in Afghanistan.
"Since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran and after Afghanistan was occupied, the Islamic Republic of Iran has always stood by the nation of Afghanistan and the Mujahideen to help them fight against the occupiers,” General Baqeri said.
He also expressed the hope that the Afghan military delegation’s visit would result in more cooperation between the two countries’ armed forces.
The Afghan defense minister, for his part, expressed his happiness with the visit and called Iran the Afghans’ second home.
Tariq Shah Bahrami lauded age-old Iran-Afghanistan bilateral relations, and appreciated Iran for standing with the people of Afghanistan during the struggle against the occupiers.
He also expressed the hope that security and peace would be restored to Afghanistan in a bid to help the security across the whole region.
In relevant remarks in late February, General Baqeri said the United States "is transferring Daesh (the ISIL) to Afghanistan now that the terrorists have lost their strongholds in Iraq and Syria".
He reiterated that continued tensions in Southwest Asia would provide Americans with the much-desired pretext to prolong their military presence there.
