Ulema Council Urges People To Register To Vote
Afghanistan’s Ulema Council, the country’s religious scholars’ council, has called on the people to participate in the voter registration process to decide on the country’s fate through election.
Members of the council read out a declaration in a meeting with President Ashraf Ghani on Friday, saying that they condemn suicide attacks that target civilians and journalists.

The council said the attacks are against Islam.

The council meanwhile called the Taliban’s spring offensive “against Islam”.

Meanwhile, President Ghani welcomed the religious scholars’ stance against the suicide attacks and reiterated his call on people to take part in the voter registration process.

Ghani said government has a strong will to hold elections.

This come after Independent Election Commission’s Chief Gula Jan Abdul Badi Sayyad said on Friday that more than one million people have registered to vote in the last 20 days across the country.

He called on the people to participate in the registration process to vote in the upcoming parliamentary and district councils’ election.

The parliamentary and district councils’ election is scheduled to be held in October.
