Pakistani NSA due in Kabul for fence-mending talks
Pakistan’s national security advisor (NSA) is scheduled to arrive in Kabul on a daylong visit today (Saturday) for talks with senior Afghan leaders.
AVA- Lt Gen Nasser Janjua will meet President Ashraf Ghani, Chief Executive Abdullah, his counterpart Hanif Atmar and spymaster Masoom Stanikzai, the NSA office said.
“Both sides will work together and chalk out a way forward to improve bilateral relations and enhance cooperation, particularly with reference to the peace initiative undertaken by the president of Afghanistan,” it added.
A peaceful Afghanistan meant a peaceful Pakistan, according to a statement from Janjua’s office. “Both countries have a common future and common destiny.”
Pakistan was prepared to work in a cooperative framework and provide all possible help for peace in Afghanistan, the statement added, as the neighbours differ over terrorism.
Janjua’s visit to Kabul comes in response to a “special invitation: from Atmar. The NSAs are expected to explore ways of defusing tensions and resuming formal dialogue.
