AVA- The deputy administrative and finance chief of the Kabul Municipality Ahmad Shoaib Rahim says the Municipality of Kabul has collected more than 3.084 billion Afghanis during the fiscal year 1396 which shows an unprecedented rise as compared to the previous years.
Rahim described the implementation of punitive principles, proper administration of the revenue collection department, and preparation of comprehensive plans as the main reasons behind the surge in Kabul Municipality revenue collection.
He said the Kabul Municipality has managed to create a positive momentum and thinking regarding the revenue collection by preparing and reviewing the weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports regarding the process.
According to Rahii, other factors that helped a surge in revenue collection have been the strict monitoring of the work of revenue collection department workers, fight against corruption, collection of Municipality debts, and the utilization of the new technologies.
Rahim also added that the Kabul Municipality has covered up to 38 per cent of its expenses from the revenues which is a major signal towards self sufficiency.
However, he said other major steps are still needed to resolve the issues of the Kabul city including the incorporating of reforms in the maintenance taxes collection by amending the law for pricing of the properties and reviewing the rent collection from the Kabul Municipality properties that have been rented.
He said the Kabul Municipality is also working to start the electronic system for the collection of the revenues and it is estimated that the new reforms will help the revenue collection to climb from 36 per cent to 80 percent in coming years.
