Two guards of Save the Children, one civilian killed, 24 others injured in
An explosion and gunfire targeted an international non-governmental organization in Afghanistan's eastern city of Jalalabad on Wednesday.

The attack targeted charity group Save the Children office in Police District 3 of the city.

At least three people were killed while 24 more were injured in the attack, said Ataullah Khogyani, a spokesman for provincial governor, hours after the attack began. The dead included two guards of the office and a civilian.

Images showed schoolchildren fleeing the area which houses also a private school and directorate of women's affairs.

Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack.

Save the Children reacted to the attack: "We are devastated at the news that our SCI office in Jalalabad city, Afghanistan came under attack this morning. Our primary concern is for the safety and security of our staff."

The aid group announced temporary suspension of its operations in the country.
