IS-K attack thwarted by Afghan forces in eastern province of Kunar

When IS-K attempted an attack against local police in Drewa Gul valley, Souki district, Kunar province, the quick actions of the Afghan forces stationed at Kunar province, with reinforcements by 2nd Brigade Command, 201st Corps, rebuffed the attackers with heavy fire and air support. Multiple insurgents were killed and wounded in the engagement, and the security situation in Drewa Cul valley is now under control.

"201st Salab Corps\' courageous and brave personnel work hard day and night to establish good governance and assure security," said Lieutenant Colonel Shirin Agha Faqaqri, 201st Corps public affairs officer. "We will never allow the enemies of the Afghan people to create any shelter in our area of responsibility."

Recent operations against IS-K in eastern Afghanistan have pushed the insurgents out of territory where they have traditionally had freedom of movement, and resulted in a significant degradation of the numbers of insurgents and their operational capability.

The majority of recent terrorist incidents in Kabul have been conducted by IS-K, but successes such as these by Afghan forces indicate an increased capability to provide security to the people of Afghanistan.
