More than 1,000 women die annually in Afghanistan due to breast cancer, officials said Tuesday.
AVA- The statistics was revealed during a ceremony to create awareness about the dangers of breast cancer in Kabul.
A total of 20,000 people are affected by cancer each year in Afghanistan, of which 3,500 are related to breast cancer.
Public Health Minister Ferozuddin Feroz noted that there is 70 percent chance of successful treatment of a patient of breast cancer if diagnosis is carried out early.
He said that the patients themselves also can diagnose the disease.
Meanwhile, WHO representative in Afghanistan Richard Perppercorn, said that breast cancer is one of the deadliest diseases which causes deaths in Afghanistan at higher rate. He said that the disease not only affects women but also families and their society.
