Gunmen shot dead an Afghan district governor in southwest Nimroz province on Monday, officials said.
Aqa Mohammad Fazli, the governor of Chakhansur district, faced the attack in the provincial capital city, Zaranj, around 8:30.
Ahmad Arab, a spokesman for provincial governor, said that the attack was carried out by gunmen who were on motorcycle.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
Arab said that police launched an investigation into the incident.
Nimroz has five districts and shares borders with both Pakistan and Iran
