U.K. to send 100 additional troops to Afghanistan: report
The United Kingdom will send 100 more British soldiers to Afghanistan amid Taliban resurgence, it has been reported.

Afghan Voice Agency(AVA), The commitment was made by British Prime Minister Theresa May during a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg in London on Wednesday, British newspaper The Sun reported.

The new troops are likely to be based in Kabul and the deployment will see the total number of British troops in Afghanistan rise to 600.

Most of international troops left Afghanistan to mark end of their combat mission in 2014. Around 13,000 foreign troops, mainly from U.S., are staying in the country, but security situation has deteriorated with government in control of around 60 percent of the territory.

NATO’s Stoltenberg on Wednesday said that the alliance had received request from military authorities to increase presence in Afghanistan with a few thousand troops.

“We are now assessing that request, we will make decisions on the scale and the scope of the mission within weeks,” he said.

Stoltenberg, however, noted that NATO would not return to a combat operation in Afghanistan.
