Chief of Pakistan's Inter-Service Intelligence, Naveed Mukhtar, on Tuesday arrived in Kabul where he met with his Afghan counterpart Masoom Stanikzai.
Afghan Voice Agency(AVA), Mukhtar is expected to meet with President Ashraf Ghani as well.
The visit of the Pakistan's powerful security establishment comes days after a 15-member Pakistani parliamentary delegation visited Kabul meeting with the Afghan leaders to help ease tensions.
Mukhtar is highest-level Pakistani official to visit Kabul after Islamabad closed two main border crossings with Afghanistan for a month starting in mid-February.
The sides are expected to discuss lists of wanted militants exchanged between the two countries.
