Afghan forces foil Haqqani plan to attack Parwan governor

Afghan officials said Tuesday that the intelligence forces foiled a Haqqani network attempt to attack office of governor of Parwan province, north Kabul.

Afghan Voice Agency(AVA),The plan was thwarted after the intelligence personnel arrested two Haqqani network members in Police District ۱۵ of capital Kabul.

Afghan intelligence agency National Directorate of Security in a statement identified one of the insurgents Watan Khan, also known as Hamza Mansour who, it said, was tasked from across the Durand Line to carry out major suicide and coordinated attack on Parwan governor’s office.

Watan Khan is considered to be one of the Haqqani network’s planners of suicide attacks, the statement said.

He was also aiming to carry out a bombing in eastern Nangarhar province, according to the statement.

During the raid to arrest the insurgents, Afghan intelligence forces also discovered large amount of weapons and ammunition.

Haqqani network is based in Pakistan and is responsible for some high-profile attacks in Afghanistan.
