Abdul Latif Rashid became the president of Iraq

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): In the second round of the Iraqi presidential election, "Abdul Latif Rashid" was elected as the president of Iraq.

 

In the first round of voting, out of a total of 277 votes, Abdullatif Rashid got 157 votes and Barham Saleh got 99 votes. In this way, none of the candidates reached the required quorum (184 votes) and re-elections were held, and Iraqi Parliament Speaker Halabousi announced the start of the second round of voting to elect the president.

 

The second round of secret voting was held to elect the president of Jahor with the presence of 269 representatives. According to al-Iraqiya report, the new generation faction (Al-Jail al-Jadeed) boycotted the second round of voting to elect the president of Iraq. Finally, "Abdul Latif Rashid" was elected as the new president of Iraq and took the place of "Barham Saleh" in the Palace of Salam in Baghdad.

 

Iraq held parliamentary elections last October 10, 2021, a year ago, and despite the passage of a year, it has not yet been able to form a government, which has exacerbated the crisis. Due to the differences between Iraq's political currents, especially the Shiite parties, the process of talks to form a government has been inconclusive. These differences increased after the Sadr movement along with the Democratic Party and the Sunni coalition could not form the government under the title of the majority faction. The representatives of this stream also resigned from their positions in protest against what they call "stone-breaking of the coordination framework".

 

In this connection, an Arabic newspaper on Tuesday, referring to the international pressure to end the political crisis in Iraq, emphasized that the position of the Shiite coordination framework in this country is very strong.

 

This year, the Iraqi parliament failed to elect a new president three times due to the lack of a quorum.

Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid was born on August 10, 1944 in the city of Sulaymaniyah in northern Iraq. Jamal Rashid was an influential member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and a fighter during Saddam's regime. He graduated from the University of Liverpool and received his doctorate from the University of Manchester, England. Is.

 

The political path of his life began in the sixties of the last century when he first joined the Kurdistan Democratic Party and after some time joined the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan. Rashid participated in several meetings and conferences of Saddam's opponents until the overthrow of the Baathist regime in 2003. He was the spokesman of the Patriotic Union of Iraqi Kurdistan in England.

 

Rashid had an influential political presence after 2003, the year of the overthrow of Saddam's regime. He has a teaching experience in Sulaymaniyah University of Iraq and has many other responsibilities in his portfolio.

 

From September 2003 to December 2010, he was in charge of the Ministry of Water Resources of the Iraqi government (after the overthrow of Saddam's Baathist regime) in Nouri al-Maliki's cabinet.

 

In 2018, the Patriotic Union of Iraqi Kurdistan nominated Mullah Bakhtiar and Abdul Latif Rashid for the presidency of this country.
