Afghanistan's close defeat against world champions and Spain's goalless victory

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The fifth day of the 2024 Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan continued with four matches in the third and fourth groups yesterday (Wednesday, September 28) and the national futsal teams of Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Argentina were able to beat Spain. Angola, Libya, Afghanistan and New Zealand.

 

Angola 2 - Ukraine 7

In the first match of the fifth day of the group stage of the 2024 Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan, in the third group of the Ukrainian national futsal team, which went to meet Angola, managed to beat the team with a score of 7-2 to compensate for the defeat in the first match, while compensating for their chance to qualify.

 

Ukraine lost 7-1 to Argentina in the first match, while Angola lost to Afghanistan 6-4.

 

Libya 1 - Kazakhstan 4

In the first match of the fourth group, Kazakhstan won 4-1 against Libya. The Kazakhs, who had stopped third-placed Spain in the first game, made up for it in the second game and managed to beat unfortunate Libya to finish four points and have a high chance of qualifying from the group.

 

Argentina 2 - Afghanistan 1

In the match between Argentina and Afghanistan, the first half ended with the brilliance of both goalkeepers, Mohammad Safari of Afghanistan and Sarmento of Argentina, with a goal in favor of Albi Celeste. Although the players created more chances, their shots were blocked one after another by Sarmiento, one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

 

In the 12th minute of the second half, Omid Ghanbari's excellent spin and his pass to Hossein Mohammadi brought Afghanistan's first goal and the hall was ecstatic by their fans. A surprising and unimaginable result that stunned the Argentine players as Afghanistan went through its first international experience.

 

In the final minutes of the game, Mortezaei's powerplay tactics against Argentina's flawless defense did not work and Lukovic's team, with the brilliance of Rosa and Sarmiento, secured their advance to the quarter-finals of the World Cup with six points. The national futsal team will play against Ukraine in the final match.

 

Both the Afghanistan and Ukraine national futsal teams need a victory to qualify for the knockout stages, having gained points from the previous two matches. If they draw, both teams will be able to qualify for the quarter-finals.

 

Spain 7 - New Zealand 1

In the last match of the fourth group of the second round of the 2024 Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan, the Spanish national futsal team went against New Zealand. They equalized but after the first goal, Spain's work became easier and eventually won 7-1.

The sixth day of the group stage of the 2024 Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan, which is also the third day of the second round of the games, will be followed today (Thursday) with three matches in Groups E and F, with Morocco and Panama facing each other; Portugal will face Tajikistan and Iran will face Guatemala.
