The growth of carpet weavers in Baghlan Province by increasing exports and creating jobs

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Monitoring: Nasima, a resident of Pul-e-Khumri’s Chap Darah area, who is engaged in carpet weaving, mentioned that compared to previous years, the carpet industry has experienced considerable growth recently, leading to a higher demand for their products. She highlighted that in earlier years, the demand for carpets was low, causing discouragement among producers. However, with the industry now flourishing, they are pleased with the progress.
Shakiba, another carpet producer from the Khwaja Alwan area of Baghlan, shared that her business has seen significant improvement this year. She proudly noted that a large volume of their carpets has been exported to foreign countries this year, marking a successful period for their trade.
Additionally, carpet weavers Nasrullah and Feroz pointed out the increasing employment opportunities in Baghlan due to the rising demand and global recognition of Afghan carpets. They emphasized that local authorities are making efforts to further support the development of handicrafts by creating more job opportunities.
Mawlawi Izzat Mir Haqqani, the Director of Tourism and Culture for Baghlan’s Information and Culture Directorate, stated that since the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate, various initiatives have been undertaken to support the carpet industry. These efforts include providing facilities to artisans and securing markets for their products to boost sales.
Mawlawi Haqqani added that over 500 families in Baghlan are involved in carpet production, with most of them operating in rural areas. This growth in the industry has positively impacted the livelihoods of many in the region./Bakhtar news
