The Arab League regretted the veto of Palestine
The Arab League regretted the failure of the UN Security Council to issue a Security Council resolution for Palestine's full membership in the UN due to the veto of its draft by the United States.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International service: Al-Sharroq Egyptian base, "Ahmed Abol Ghait", Secretary General of the Arab League, wrote on his personal page on the former Twitter social network (X): It is very regrettable that in order to prevent the clear international will in In the case of Palestine joining the United Nations as a full member, the right of veto should be used.

Abul Ghait added: Nevertheless, we know that this meeting is only one step in the path of a long political struggle, which will definitely lead to the victory of the will of the Palestinians with the support of the Arab countries and the international community.

According to IRNA, America vetoed the resolution of Palestine's full membership in the United Nations in the Security Council vote on Friday morning. 12 of the 15 members of the Security Council voted in favor of this resolution, while England and Switzerland abstained.

The country of Algeria had submitted the draft resolution of Palestine's full membership in the United Nations to the United Nations Security Council and demanded that it be presented at the meeting of this council on Thursday, but the country of Malta, which is the rotating president of the Security Council this month (April), first announced He said that the Security Council will make a decision about this on Friday evening local time, but finally this meeting was held on Thursday evening local time.

The approval of a resolution in the UN Security Council requires that at least 9 positive votes be obtained without opposition or the veto of the five permanent members of the Security Council, namely the United States, England, Russia, France and China.

Before, informed sources had announced that this resolution has the support of 13 members of the Security Council, but probably the United States, one of the main members of the Security Council and the permanent supporter of Israel (regime), will oppose it and veto it.

The US State Department announced on Thursday local time that Washington will not vote positively for this resolution.

Palestine is now a permanent observer at the United Nations. In 2011, Palestine applied for permanent membership in the United Nations, but later decided to remain as a permanent observer for some time.

In April, Palestine sent a letter to the UN Security Council requesting that it reconsider joining the UN as a permanent member.

Countries with this status can participate in most meetings and have access to almost all relevant documents, but do not have the right to vote. Except for Palestine, the Vatican also has permanent observer status in the United Nations.

Countries are admitted to this international organization by the decision of the UN General Assembly based on the recommendation of the Security Council.
