Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Jens Stoltenberg, the Secretary General of NATO, on Monday evening (July 10), after announcing the news of Erdogan's agreement with Sweden joining NATO, said that the Turkish Parliament will soon review the legal procedures for approval of the membership.
He added that Erdogan will send the protocol of Sweden's accession to NATO to the Turkish parliament and "guarantee its approval".
Stoltenberg, speaking in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, made the announcement after hosting a meeting between Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristerson.
The NATO Secretary General also said about the talks between the two senior officials: "Sweden and Turkey will cooperate more closely to address Turkey's legitimate security concerns."
"As part of this process, Sweden has amended its constitution, changed its laws, significantly expanded its counter-terrorism operations against the Kurdistan Workers' Party, and resumed arms exports to Turkey," he added. ».
Jens Stoltenberg described Turkey's decision as a "historic step"; However, he added that it is not possible to announce a "clear date" for the end of this process and for Sweden to join this military alliance.
After Russia's military attack on Ukraine, Sweden and Finland wanted to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, but Turkey, as a member of this organization, prevented Sweden from joining.
