Al-Azhar Imam: Ban on Women
The Grand Imam of al-Azhar University, described the Afghan Islamic Emirate’s decision of banning university education for women against Islamic principles.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_Monitoring, The grand Islamic scholar of Al-Azhar University on Friday wrote on his Facebook, stating the “decision has shaken the conscience of Muslims and Non-Muslims”, and no Muslim leader should order such a shameful decree.

The renowned Sunni Muslim scholar added that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s latest decree suspending girls’ university education is extremely regrettable and contradicts the Islamic Sharia on all fronts. He warned the Muslims and Non-Muslims that the decision should not be considered an Islamic order. Islam strongly rejects such actions that harm humanity.

This comes as Nida Mohammad Nadim, the acting Minister of Higher Education of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan on Thursday, during a press conference stated that Afghan girls have violated university rules and regulations, and he highlighted four specific reasons for the suspension of girls’ university education.

The presence of female students without a male companion in dormitories
Noncompliance of Islamic hijab
Mixing of genders in universities
Presence of girls in faculties that violates the principle of Islam, and is not conducive to their honor and dignity
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan had given plenty of time [14 months] for girls to abide by the rules, but none did so. The latest decision of Afghanistan’s interim authorities has drawn worldwide criticism including from Islamic states and organizations – all demanding the decision be revoked and allow Afghan women and girls to access education and work.
