The Islamic Emirate should reconsider the closure of universities for girls

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has said in a statement that following the decision of the Islamic Emirate to close universities for girls for an indefinite period, Hussain Ibrahim Taha, the secretary general of this organization, expressed concern and condemned this "sad decision".
 
It is stated in this statement that the notification of this action through the Ministry of Higher Education of the Islamic Emirate is even more disappointing for this organization, because previously the Secretary General of this organization and his special envoy for Afghanistan have "repeatedly warned the current authorities against making such a decision".
 
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation added that the last warning message was given by the special envoy of the Secretary General of this organization during his trip to Kabul in mid-November of this year.
 
According to Mr. Ibrahim Taha, suspending girls' access to university courses, as it deprives Afghan girls and women of the right to education, employment and social justice, will seriously and quickly weaken the credibility of the Islamic Emirate.
 
This international Islamic organization emphasized that although it is committed to its policy of interaction with the Islamic Emirate, it cannot but condemn this action and asked the Islamic Emirate to reconsider and cancel this order "in order to maintain stability between promises and real decisions". .
 
Meanwhile, the United Nations and its humanitarian partners in Afghanistan have condemned the Islamic Emirate's decision to suspend the education of girls and women in a joint statement and called for the immediate cancellation of this decision.
 
In this statement published by UNAMA today (Wednesday, December 21), it is stated that the UN family and the entire humanitarian community in Afghanistan share the anger of millions of Afghan citizens and the international community regarding the decision of the Islamic Emirate.
 
The United Nations and its partners have said that the ban on women attending universities is a continuation of the targeted discriminatory policies implemented by the Islamic Emirate against women.
 
According to the statement of this organization, since August 15, 2021, the Islamic Emirate has banned girls from going to secondary schools, violated the freedom of movement of women and girls, and deprived women from most fields of work. The Islamic Emirate has also prohibited women from entering parks, sports facilities and public baths.
 
The United Nations and its humanitarian partners in Afghanistan have said that these restrictions lead to the confinement of women and girls within the four walls of their homes.
 
This organization has added that preventing the meaningful participation of half of the population in the society and economy will have a destructive effect on the whole country.
 
According to this organization, the recent decision of the Islamic Emirate will be a negative factor for Afghans living abroad who want to return to the country and will encourage more people to flee the country.
 
Yesterday, the Ministry of Higher Education of the Islamic Emirate, in a letter addressed to public and private universities, requested that the education of girls be "suspended" until further notice. After the Taliban, this group closed schools for girls.
