Trump: We make massive payments to Pakistan, they must help

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that Pakistan must take decisive action against terror groups operating in its soil.

Unveiling a new national security strategy, Trump also expressed optimism over a new U.S. strategy on Afghanistan he announced in August.

“In Afghanistan, our troops are no longer undermined by artificial timelines, and we no longer tell our enemies of our plans,” Trump said. “We are beginning to see results on the battlefield.”

In announcing the new U.S. strategy on Afghanistan, Trump in August took tough line toward Pakistan for harbouring militants who launch attacks its neighbouring country.

However, nearly four months after the announcement, Pakistan has yet to change its behaviour.

“We have made clear to Pakistan that while we desire continued partnership, we must see decisive action against terrorist groups operating on their territory,” Trump said. “And we make massive payments every year to Pakistan. They have to help.”
