Watchdog details workers
Afghanistan's top media watchdog on Monday released a new report detailing violation of rights and privileges of employees by the employers in the media industry of the country.

AVA- Delay in salary payment, lack of pension, contract and annual holidays, unjustified dismissals, employers’ meddling in the professional affairs have been cited in the report.

According to the report, 93 percent of media workers do not receive their monthly salaries on due time.

It added that more than 50 percent of media workers cannot use holidays they are entitled by laws, while a majority are not promoted.

Mujib Khelwatgar, the CEO of Nai, said that there is no security measure in place for nearly all media workers when they are out of their workplace.

Nai said that violation of rights of media workers hurts the media industry in the country, urging employers to address the problem.

It also called on the government help overcome the situation by enforcing mass media regulatioon and labour law.
