Taliban fighters have shot and killed as many as 50 people, mostly civilians, in northern province of Sar-i-Pul province, officials said Sunday.
AVA- The massacre happened Saturday after the insurgents took over strategic Mirza Olang area in Sayad district.
The provincial governor, Zahir Wahdat, told 1TV that most of the dead were civilians. According to the official, five of the dead were uprising forces and the rest were civilians.
The fallen area is only 20 kilometers from the provincial capital city, also Sar-i-Pul.
The tragedy comes as violence has raged in Afghanistan recently.
In the last few weeks, Taliban captured three districts in different zones of the country, before they were reclaimed by the Afghan forces.
