Afghanistan becomes member of UN-Habitat Governing Council
Afghanistan has officially become member of the United Nation Human Settlement Programme's Governing Council.

Afghan Voice Agency(AVA). The announcement came following the 26th session of the council held in Kenya.

“(Afghan Urban Development Minister) Sayed Sadat Mansoor Naderi on Monday officially secured the membership seat of the Governing Council,” an official statement said.

The minister presented specific recommendations on behalf of Afghanistan to the council.

During the session, an agreement is expected to be signed between Afghanistan and UN-Habitat’s executive director, Joan Clos. An exhibition stall showcasing the activities of Afghanistan in the area of housing and urban development will also be opened.

Composed of more than 55 members states, the Governing Council meets every 2 years. Member states are elected by the U.N.’s Economic and Social council for a period of four years.

Afghanistan’s membership to the UN-Habitat Governing Council will facilitate major international support in the area of housing to the country.
