Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)-Monitoring: Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, Kana'ani said the widespread pro-Palestine rallies at the US universities show the depth of hatred toward the Zionist regime and the crimes it has committed in the besieged enclave in the past seven months with the support of Washington and some European countries.
"Those, who think about justice, will not tolerate support of certain states for the Zionist regime's genocidal war," the spokesperson told reporters.
Pro-Palestinian demonstrations continue in universities across the US, as they also spread to schools in Europe against the Washington-backed Israeli military onslaught on the Gaza Strip, which has killed nearly 34,500, mainly children and women.
Demonstrators say the administration of President Joe Biden is complicit in the deaths of the many thousands of civilians in the blockaded enclave. Since the war began in Gaza in early October 2023, American and European officials have promised rock-solid and unwavering support to Tel Aviv.
The American students are demanding their universities call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and cut all ties with companies that enable Israel’s military operations against Palestine.
The US Police were out in full force on college campuses in recent days, some using chemical irritants and Tasers to disperse the students. At least 1,000 protesters have been detained since the launch of pro-Palestinian demonstrations on university campuses across the United States, with dozens suspended, placed on probation and expelled from universities.
Kana'ani stressed that the US authorities cannot silence protesters by resorting to harsh treatment, asking the international community to intervene.
By dispatching the law enforcement to the college campuses, Washington showed that it pursues a double standard policy toward the human rights issue, he argued.
The US officials should allow students to express their viewpoints, the diplomat continued, adding that quietening their voices cannot stop legitimate demands of the world's public opinion./Mehr
