"I am proud that the United States this year has contributed $77 million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for these efforts and $9 million to the International Organization for Migration to address the recent earthquakes," West wrote.

The American representative has said that he has met Afghan refugees in Pakistan and heard about their lives. This American diplomat has called for the protection of refugees.

Thomas West says that during his two-day trip to Pakistan, he talked with Pakistani officials about the need to protect Afghan refugees.

He has discussed with General Asim Munir, Chief of Staff of the Army and Asif Durrani, Pakistan's Special Representative for Afghanistan Affairs.

West added that the United States appreciates "close engagement with Islamabad on refugee protection issues, including cooperation with international organizations and humane and dignified engagement."

It should be noted that this conversation was held while the process of arresting and deporting undocumented Afghan refugees and asylum seekers from Pakistan continues.
