Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Russian officials announced today (Saturday, August 5, 2023) that following the attack of the Ukrainian army drone on a Russian oil tanker in the area of the "Crimea" bridge, explosions were heard near this bridge that connects Crimea with Russia.
The Russian Maritime Rescue Service Center in the Black Sea commercial port of Novorossiysk announced that tugboats had been dispatched to the area to assist the damaged Russian oil tanker, which was unable to continue operations, Reuters reported.
"We can say that the tanker was damaged in the southern part of the [Kerch] strait," Russian news agency Tass reported, citing the Russian Maritime Rescue Center.
The report continues that officials are investigating whether they need a tugboat to transport the tanker. The Russian tanker is currently docked and the engine room has suffered minor damage.
Earlier it was reported that last midnight, a Russian warship was seriously damaged in a drone attack by the Ukrainian Navy at the Russian Naval Base in Novorossiysk.
In recent weeks, the Ukrainian army has increased its drone attacks against the Crimean peninsula at the same time as the counter-attacks began.
The Crimean peninsula was annexed to the territory of Russia by holding a referendum in 2014, and since the beginning of the Russian military operations in Ukraine, it has been the target of attacks by the Ukrainian army, but these attacks have intensified in recent weeks.
