Shooting in Germany left at least seven dead and several injured

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): German media reported that at least 7 people were killed and several others were injured in a shooting in a church belonging to "Jehovah's Witnesses" in the city of Hamburg, Germany.

 

The German news agency (DPA) reported that several people were killed in this shooting. The German police said in a statement that a "massive operation" is underway in the Alsterdorf area of Hamburg, which is one of the northern German cities.

 

Germany's Bild newspaper reported that the shooting happened at 21:00 local time, and during it, at least one person started shooting in a religious place, possibly a building belonging to "Jehovah's Witnesses".

 

The police said that the assailant is believed to be among those killed in this incident. According to the police, the lifeless body of a person who is believed to be the perpetrator of the attack was found. The investigation continues to determine the number of assailants.

 

Germany's Bild newspaper reported the number of people injured as 25. A police spokesman said that several streets were closed and people were advised not to approach them.

 

The police spokesperson said that there is no reliable information about the motive of the perpetrator of this crime. The police also asked people to refrain from spreading rumors or spreading speculations without documents.

 

An eyewitness told the Guardian newspaper: "12 shots were fired...after that we saw some people being carried into black bags."

 

Germany has been the scene of several shootings in recent years. In February 2020, a right-wing extremist shot and killed 10 people and wounded five others.
