Telephone Call between Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan and Canada
Mohammad Haneef Atmar, Acting Foreign Minister, held a telephone conversation with his Canadian counterpart H.E François-Philippe Champagne.
At the outset, Minister Atmar thanked Canadian people and government for their continued support and cooperation with Afghanistan for the past 19 years. 
The two sides discussed a number of issues including progress in Afghanistan Peace Negotiations, reducing violence and the need for a comprehensive ceasefire, the importance of preserving the democratic gains of the last 19 years, strengthening bilateral relations, and the need for transparent investigation of the PS725 crash in Iran last January.
The Canadian Foreign Minister said that “Canada is closely following the Afghan peace negotiation and hopes that its outcome results in a lasting peace and prosperity in Afghanistan.” He stressed on the need to protect the achievements of the past two decades including women rights, human rights, democracy and rule of law.
In closing, both sides referred to the importance of Geneva Conference which is due to be held in November 2020. H.E Mr. Philippe assured Minister Atmar of Canada’s continued cooperation and support with the Afghan people and government in the future.
