Current leadership formation in election commission not acceptable: Noor
The chief executive of Jamiat-e-Islami Ata Mohammad Noor expressed his opposition with the current leadership formation in the independent election commission of Afghanistan, insisting that a free and fair election would be impossible under the supervision of the current formation.

AVA- Noor made the remarks during a gathering attended by his supporters in Mazar-e-Sharif city, the provincial capital of Balkh province.

He said immediate reforms are needed in the leadership of the election commission, claiming that all the current members have been appointed by the top government officials.

The governor of Balkh province said the reforms should be implemented with the agreement of the political parties, civil society, and the supreme court of Afghanistan.

In other parts of his speech, Noor insisted on elections process for the provincial governors and mayors of the cities.

According to Noor, the people should elect governors and mayors, emphasizing that the elections of the governors and mayors will help in the accountability of the officials.

The latest remarks by Noor come as a deadlock still persist between him and the government over the Balkh government leadership.

The Afghan government announced nearly three weeks ago that the resignation of Ata Mohammad Noor from the Balkh government has been approved by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani.

Noor admitted that he submitted his resignation but he had several demands before stepping down and none of them has been met by the government while his resignation has been approved.
