AVA- At least 28 civilians, including women and children, were killed during an airstrike by US forces in central Logar province on Wednesday morning, residents claimed.
Azizullah, a resident of the Dasht-i-Baree locality of Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital, told Pajhwok Afghan News American forces carried out the air raid on a civilian house in the morning.
He said all those in the house, including women and children, were killed and the area was currently under siege from Afghan and foreign forces. “The house is located in Sarha Qala area, where a US plane has crashed.”
Dawood, another inhabitant of the neighbourhood, confirmed the victims were ordinary resident of Khost province living in the area. “There were 28 to 32 people living in the house. Only one man of the family who had gone somewhere survived.”
Salim Saleh, the governor’s spokesman, also verified the US airstrike in Dasht-i-Baree area. The raid caused casualties but he was unaware of exact figures, the official said.
He said the security forces had been sent to the area to investigate the incident. However, he denied the plane crash in this locality, saying the aircraft had flown troops to the vicinity.
Zabihullah Mujahid, Taliban’s spokesman, claimed the movement's fighters had shot down the aircraft. He said all soldiers aboard the plane were killed.
The US forces have not yet commented on the incident.
