Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): On Saturday (April 28), a large explosion occurred in Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas, Iran, causing great loss of life and property. According to the Director General of Crisis Management of Hormozgan Province, Iran, the explosion was related to a number of covered containers in Shahid Rajaee Port.

Mojtaba Khalidi, spokesman for the Iranian Red Crescent, said about the details of the relief efforts in the Shahid Rajaee wharf incident: As soon as it happened, our first operational team was based near Shahid Rajaee Port and immediately took initial measures and announced that the Red Crescent Society’s operations center would hold an urgent meeting.
He added: "Given the scale of the incident, which was sent to the center by our colleagues from the initial images, Hormozgan province was immediately put on alert and in red status."
The spokesman for the Iranian Red Crescent Society continued: "So far, 50 operational teams of the Red Crescent Society are present at the scene, including 46 relief and rescue teams, and our medical teams, including two Sahar teams, are present at the scene with psychological support."
Khalidi said: "In addition to these measures, 50 other teams are also on standby in neighboring provinces and Tehran to take action if needed to transport possible casualties or replace other forces."
Referring to the number of casualties, he added: "This incident has so far resulted in about 1,200 casualties, all of whom were transferred to hospitals, and we hope they will recover soon."
The spokesman for the Iranian Red Crescent Society continued regarding air rescue: "Our helicopters have so far made 31 sorties, which included transporting casualties, transporting equipment, and even extinguishing fires."
Khalidi said: I ask people not to move towards Bandar Abbas with any expertise and knowledge and let the relief agencies present their needs and then come to help, but there is no need for individual help from compatriots at the moment. We also thank all compatriots who donated blood and fortunately the need for blood has also been met.
He added: The issue of extinguishing the fire in these conditions with momentary explosions requires special and specialized measures, which are being carried out, and God willing, the fire will be completely controlled soon.
