America's military adventures in Iraq contributed to the emergence of new threats to the stability and security of the region
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): March 20 is the 20th anniversary of the US and its allies' military invasion of Iraq, two years after the invasion of Afghanistan.
"Maria Zakharova", the spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a note referring to the anniversary of this event, has discussed the various aspects of the US military aggression against Iraq.
He said that the United States of America started attacking Iraq on March 20, 2003, with the support of its allies, in violation of international laws. This adventure completely destroyed the government system, the military, economic and social foundations of Iraq and plunged the country into a long-term internal military-political conflict from which it has not been able to completely escape to this day.
Zakharova continued: This attack also led to the overthrow and subsequent execution of Saddam Hussein, the legitimate president of Iraq, the destruction of the country's basic infrastructure, a serious deterioration in the state of the health and treatment system, and an increase in crimes.
He reminded that as a result of this attack, weapons of mass destruction were not found in Iraq, and the leaders of the countries participating in this military intervention justified their criminal actions in Iraq with the lack of accuracy in the information of the intelligence agencies.
According to this senior Russian diplomat, based on the estimates of various academic sources and non-governmental organizations, the number of civilians killed by violent death is between 100,000 and 205,000, and indirect casualties among civilians are around 650,000. (According to some independent research, up to 1.2 million dead). The number of Iraqi refugees has reached 1.5 million, internally displaced people - 2 million.
This is while more than 12 million Iraqis (about 30% of the population) live below the poverty line.
He pointed out that despite the information about the war crimes committed in Iraq by American soldiers and their allied countries, the absolute majority of the perpetrators of the crimes have not yet been brought to justice.
In the end, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia emphasized: Most of the incidents were not even investigated and very few criminal cases have been prepared. America's military adventures have contributed to the emergence of new threats to the stability and security of the region and created a favorable environment for the spread of terrorism and extremist ideas, as a result of which the whole world witnesses the crimes of the ISIS terrorist network.
