The deputy chief of Afghanistan's Passport Department Mohammad Nabi Bayan was arrested Monday on murder charges, the Afghan Attorney General's office said in a released statement.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai called for Bayan's arrest at the National Security Council Meeting on Sunday and ordered an investigation into over the murder, the statement said.
The statement noted that recently a number of residents from Badakhshan province recently complained against Bayan and accused him of murder.
Karzai's office confirmed in a statement said that "the Afghan Interior Ministry was instructed following the national security council meeting on Sunday to dismiss Mohammad Nabi Bayan from his position and introduce [him] to judiciary institutions for further investigations." (TOLO News)
