Tel Aviv reiterates position ahead of Security Council vote: “There will be no Palestinian state”
On the eve of the Security Council vote on the draft US resolution, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz once again announced that Tel Aviv will not accept any form of Palestinian state formation. He reiterated Tel Aviv’s strict stance by threatening the future of Gaza and emphasizing the continued presence of the Israeli army in Jabal al-Sheikh, Syria, while the US and a number of Arab allies are trying to quickly pass the resolution.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced today (Sunday, November 16) that Israel’s position is clear: “There will be no Palestinian state.” These words were made on the eve of the Security Council vote on the draft US resolution in this regard.

Katz continued: “Within the framework of the US draft resolution in the UN, no Palestinian state will be formed.”

Referring to the resolution that will be voted on tomorrow in the Security Council under the title “The Path to a Palestinian State,” he reiterated: “Israel’s policy is clear: there will be no Palestinian state.”

Regarding the Gaza Strip, Katz threatened: “Gaza will be disarmed down to the last tunnel and Hamas will lay down its weapons.”

The United States and a number of its partners, including Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, called on the Security Council on Friday to “accelerate” the adoption of a draft American resolution; a resolution that supports US President Donald Trump’s plan for peace in Gaza.

In a statement, the United States, Qatar, Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Jordan and Turkey announced their “joint support” for the draft; a draft that includes the establishment of an international stabilization force. They expressed hope that the resolution would be adopted “swiftly.”

At the same time, Katz referred to ongoing contacts with Syria regarding security arrangements, stressing: “The Israeli army will remain on the summit of Jabal al-Sheikh and in the security zone.”

After the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime and the collapse of the Syrian army, Israel took advantage of the power vacuum to occupy the strategic peak of Jabal al-Sheikh. The high ground gives Israel visibility and military control over southern Syria and Lebanon and has become a sensitive point in the security equation of the region. Israeli officials have repeatedly stressed that they have no plans to withdraw from Jabal al-Sheikh.
