Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: According to Russia Today, the New York Times newspaper, citing sources it called informed, announced that the US government has deployed an aircraft carrier to the coast of Venezuela.
According to the report, this action was taken within the framework of putting pressure on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in negotiations regarding control of the country's oil reserves.
Meanwhile, Carlos Jimenez, a member of the US House of Representatives Armed Forces Committee, claimed in a speech that Washington is following up on reports that indicate that the Maduro government may take action to destroy Venezuela's main infrastructure, including bridges, tunnels and refineries, and then blame the US or the opposition to the Caracas government.
"Although these allegations have not yet been independently verified, they are consistent with the desperate tactics of a failed dictatorship," he said.
Jimenez claimed that the United States would continue to stand with the Venezuelan people against "tyranny and corruption."
He also warned that any attempt by the Maduro government to create instability or distort reality for the purpose of political survival would not be acceptable to Washington.
