Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi explained the latest developments in foreign policy this morning (Sunday, November 16) at the international conference on "International Law under Aggression, Aggression and Defense" at the Center for Political and International Studies of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In response to the question whether diplomacy has completely disappeared, he said: The recent military attack on Iran was a kind of attack on diplomacy. The first missile fired by the US and Israel hit the negotiating table between Iran and the US. But on the other hand, this war showed that there is no other way but diplomacy. What the Israeli and American regimes intended with this war was not achieved, and the United States and Israel did not achieve any of their goals, but rather failed. If their goal was to destroy Iran’s nuclear program, they did not succeed.
He added: “I have said many times that facilities may be destroyed and equipment may be destroyed, but technology cannot be destroyed through aerial bombardment, and more importantly, the will of nations cannot be destroyed through aerial bombardment.”
The head of Iran’s diplomatic service stated: “Our facilities have been destroyed, but our technology is intact and our will has become even stronger. Now, the request for negotiations has started again, and this is natural. Because they did not achieve what they wanted regarding Iran’s nuclear program through a military attack, and this was the same thing we had said many times that there is no military solution to the Iranian nuclear issue. They tried it and realized that this solution is not the right one.”
He added: “But there is a rule and a basis for negotiations and diplomacy.” It is not the case that you can achieve in negotiations what you did not achieve in war and that you can impose your own demands. The first step in diplomacy and negotiation is to accept that negotiation is different from dictating and forcing. Negotiation is about trade-offs and mutual benefits.
Araghchi added: It is not the case that one side can achieve everything it wants. Negotiation and diplomacy must have a reasonable and logical basis and be carried out seriously.
He said: If such conditions arise for negotiation, the Islamic Republic of Iran has proven that it is always ready for negotiation. We have never left the negotiating table; it was always the opposing parties who betrayed the negotiating table. In the JCPOA agreement in 2015, the Islamic Republic of Iran negotiated in good faith, agreed in good faith, and implemented in good faith. But the US, for no reason, while Iran was fully committed to its commitments, withdrew from the JCPOA and betrayed diplomacy, an agreement that was the product of diplomacy and that the whole world had celebrated in 2015. It betrayed it and withdrew from it.
Araghchi continued: This time, this betrayal was carried out in a worse way, by attacking Iran. It was not Iran that escaped diplomacy, it was America and the Western countries that were always seeking to impose their own desires during the negotiations.
He said: In my opinion, diplomacy can still be alive and is still the final solution to resolve disputes, but it must adhere to its criteria, rules and principles.
Stating that Iran believes in diplomacy and dialogue on regional issues, the Iranian Foreign Minister stated: Choosing Iran is the solution to diplomacy.
The head of the Iranian diplomatic service said: I see the prospects and future of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the movement that we have started in the region and at the international level as very promising and positive.
Araqchi added: We have gone through a difficult war. Our war was in defense of the attacks of the United States and the Zionist regime with the cooperation of many countries that I do not want to name, but some said that they helped in the Israeli invasion and their goals in this war were not achieved in any way. In the first days, they demanded Iran's unconditional surrender, but on the 12th day, they demanded a ceasefire.
He added: They failed to achieve their goals, and Iran managed to prepare itself for defense within a few hours on the very first day of the war and demonstrate a very strong defense, and this defense took on stronger dimensions every day. Sometimes it was said that the sky of Iran was in the possession of Israeli planes, but it was not mentioned that the airspace of Israel was also in the possession of Iranian missiles.
He said: We have gone through the war successfully. They could not break our national unity and the Iranian people became the strongest supporter of the government in confronting this aggression. Now, a few months after the 12-day war, I can confidently say that we are much stronger in terms of defense force than before the 23rd of Gemini.
Araghchi stated: All our power has been restored. We learned many lessons from this war. If it happens again now, we will be able to fight back better and stronger than before, and this in itself is a factor in preventing war. They thought that Iran was not prepared to defend itself, but now we are stronger than then, and this readiness for war is definitely the most important factor that will prevent another war. If the previous failed experience is repeated, the result will be nothing but the previous failure.
He said: America and others should know that there is no way to resolve issues with Iran except through diplomacy and using the language of respect and dignity. If they speak to the Iranian people with the language of dignity and respect, they will be answered with the same language. As happened in the JCPOA negotiations.
Araqchi stated: If they speak to the Iranian people in another language, the Iranian people will respond with the same language. Politicians should recognize historical experiences and learn from them.
The head of the Iranian diplomatic service also said: Now those who want to interact with Iran must choose which experience they want to take into account.
