Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The IRGC Navy announced: Fighters from the IRGC Navy’s rapid response units began monitoring the movements of the Talara tanker at 7:30 a.m. yesterday after receiving an order from a judicial authority. The tanker, which was sailing under the flag of the Marshall Islands, was intercepted and detained near the Strait of Hormuz and then transferred to the port.
The statement states: The seizure operation was carried out in order to protect the national interests and resources of the Islamic Republic of Iran and in coordination with judicial authorities. After initial investigations, it was determined that the Talara tanker was carrying unauthorized cargo and that violations were observed in its cargo.
The seizure was confirmed after the Associated Press reported, citing a US Department of Defense official, that Iranian forces had seized the tanker near the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Iranian Revolutionary Guard Navy officials, further inspections are underway to obtain more detailed information about the tanker’s cargo and to review its documentation.
