Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The Ministry of Industry and Trade announced in a press release that in this meeting, the parties, while reviewing the current status of trade and transit at the Melk-Abrisham border, emphasized the need to remove existing obstacles and promote operational cooperation.
The press release added that the Minister of Industry and Trade introduced the Milk border as a strategic point in connecting Afghanistan to important regional markets and emphasized creating more facilities for traders and commercial vehicles.
It is said that the parties also emphasized strengthening customs relations and inter-provincial cooperation between the Nimroz province of Afghanistan and the Sistan and Baluchestan province of Iran to expedite the process of goods clearance and reduce vehicle downtime. Also, attracting and absorbing joint investments in the industrial, commercial and transit sectors, especially in joint border projects, were other topics discussed.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade clarified that in this meeting, the need to develop and upgrade port and border infrastructure to increase the capacity for accepting and exiting goods and creating new transit routes was also emphasized. The parties have agreed to increase the traffic of commercial vehicles between the two countries to strengthen the flow of goods and reduce congestion. Solutions were also discussed to remove administrative and technical obstacles that have slowed down the process of trade and transit.
It is said that at the end of the meeting, the parties emphasized the continuation of joint meetings and the establishment of technical teams to follow up on the agreed issues and announced that the economic cooperation between the two countries will be developed based on common interests. Also, a short and temporary land route for the movement of commercial vehicles between the two countries has been opened, which is evaluated as an important step towards facilitating economic and trade relations.
It is worth noting that following the recent tensions with Pakistan, the trade process with this country has been completely stopped. The country's authorities have said that they are looking for alternative ways to the current trade and transit with Pakistan.
