The Quadrilateral Committee Meeting on the Sudan Crisis is Coming
A UN official announced that the Quadrilateral Committee, comprising the United Nations, the African Union, the Arab League and the East African Development Bank, is about to hold a new meeting to review the developments and the ongoing crisis in Sudan.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): According to the Arab 21 website, Shirin Yassin, Assistant Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, announced that Ramtane Lamamra, the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Sudan, is currently consulting with the African Union on a proposal to convene a meeting of the Quadrilateral Committee, comprising the United Nations, the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the Arab League, as soon as possible, in order to form a collective movement that includes regional and international cooperation to resolve the Sudanese crisis.

Speaking to Arabi 21, Yassin added that Lammara is coordinating his efforts with other mediation bodies, including members of the Quartet Initiative, which consists of foreign ministers from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the United States, to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable political solution in Sudan by integrating efforts.

He added that the humanitarian situation in Fasher and Darfur has worsened since late October, with an estimated 100,000 civilians fleeing and needs escalating. He called for the safe exit of trapped people and for the provision of basic support and supplies, including food, water and services.

The UN Assistant Spokesperson stressed the need to hold accountable all those who ordered or carried out the killings and sexual violence, or those who supported the perpetrators with weapons, and said that these parties must be held accountable for their actions.

Yassin also revealed that UN staff are not currently inside Fasher, but are working through partners in the Darfur region.

He pointed out the dangerous situation for international organizations' staff and the deaths of some of them, and called for clear security guarantees and safe routes to protect civilians and aid teams.

On the other hand, a source in the Sudanese army announced that army forces had regained control of the Umm Dam Haj Ahmed area in North Kordofan state.

The source told Al Jazeera that a drone of the Rapid Reaction Forces targeted an oil refinery in Al-Jabalin, in the south of White Nile state.
