Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Tehran: Ismail Baghaei said: “We are concerned about any tension on our eastern borders; not only because of our neighborhood with Pakistan and Afghanistan, but also because these two Muslim countries have very long-standing historical, religious and cultural relations with us.”
He added that any insecurity on the eastern borders could affect the security of the entire region, and for this reason, the Islamic Republic of Iran has called on both sides to exercise restraint since the beginning of the tension between the two countries.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman stated: “We have announced our readiness to work through Jamila’s efforts to resolve the tension between the two countries; the latest was Dr. Araqchi’s phone call with the foreign ministers of Afghanistan and Pakistan.”
Baqaei continued: “Iran has presented its point of view and emphasized that it is ready to provide any assistance to resolve the issue and prevent the escalation of tensions between the two countries.”
He concluded by emphasizing the position of the Islamic Republic of Iran once again, saying: “We will announce this readiness again, and if the opposing parties agree, we will definitely not hesitate to make any effort to improve the situation.”
On Sunday, November 9, Seyyed Abbas Araqchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, exchanged views on the latest regional developments, bilateral relations, and the ongoing talks between Kabul and Islamabad in two separate phone calls with Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, and Maulvi Amir Khan Mottaki, Foreign Minister of Afghanistan.
In these calls, Araqchi expressed concern about the current situation in Afghanistan-Pakistan relations, considered it necessary to continue dialogue and use the capacity of influential countries in the region to reduce tensions, and announced that the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready for any cooperation and assistance to help resolve the differences between the two countries.
This is while the Afghanistan-Pakistan talks in Istanbul have not yielded any results so far due to Islamabad's unconstructive behavior and approach.
