The last elections for the Palestinian Legislative Council were held in 2006. In these elections, the Hamas movement won over the Abbas-led Fatah party. After that, Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip, and Fatah retained leadership of the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank.
Abbas also emphasized that parties and groups that do not adhere to the two-state solution will be prohibited from participating in the elections.
The statement states that “the electoral law and related laws will also be amended in accordance with the provisions of the interim constitution, so that no party, political force or individual can run for office unless it adheres to the political program and legal obligations of the Palestine Liberation Organization.” Adherence to the two-state solution, the Arab peace initiative, international legitimacy resolutions, and the principle of one system, one law, and one legitimate security force are among these legal obligations.
Last night, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) announced its conditional agreement with Trump’s 20-point plan for Gaza.
Thus, there is currently a glimmer of hope for an end to the Israeli war in Gaza. However, many are not very optimistic about the regime’s adherence to this plan and the results of future negotiations, given the actions and repeated broken promises of the Zionist regime in the past.
Hamas has announced that it has agreed to the release of all Israeli prisoners, both alive and dead, based on the exchange formula proposed in the Trump plan and with the necessary field conditions.
Hamas also stressed that it is ready to immediately enter into negotiations with the mediation of the intermediary parties to examine the details of the exchange.
The movement then reiterated its agreement to hand over the administration of the Gaza Strip to a Palestinian delegation consisting of independent figures (technocrats) based on a Palestinian national agreement and with the support of Arab and Islamic support.
Hamas also stressed that what is included in the Trump plan regarding the future of the Gaza Strip and the rights of the Palestinian people is a national decision that must be discussed and examined within a comprehensive framework and at the Palestinian national level.
