Syria-Russia talks in Damascus as Israel attacks Quneitra
A high-ranking Russian delegation headed by Admiral Oleg Kornienko held talks with Syrian officials on training and strengthening the combat capabilities of artillery, air and armored units. This comes as the Israeli army carried out two new attacks on Quneitra province in southwestern Syria on Thursday.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)-International Service: The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced that talks were held in Damascus on Thursday with a Russian military delegation headed by Admiral Oleg Viktorovich Kornienko.

The ministry explained that Brigadier General Yahya Bitar, director of the Ministry of Defense’s Air Force and Air Defense Training Department, along with officials from the Training Department and the Artillery, Air Force, Affiliates and Armored Forces departments, welcomed the delegation.

The two sides discussed ways to train and develop the specialties of “artillery, air force, dependents and armored units” and increase the level of efficiency and readiness.

According to Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed, the talks took place after the visit of Major General Ali al-Nassan, Chief of the General Staff of the Syrian Army, to the Russian capital Moscow on Wednesday.

The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced in a statement that the visit was “within the framework of developing coordination mechanisms between the defense ministries of the two countries.”

Meanwhile, Asim Ghalioun, head of the Syrian Ministry of Defense’s Media and Communications Department, posted a photo on his Facebook page next to a Russian air defense system with the caption: “Today in Russia and in the coming days in Syria.”

Syrian Defense Minister Muharram Abu Qasra and Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani also visited Moscow at the end of June and held high-level meetings with Russian leaders.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin stressed at the time that contacts between Moscow and Damascus regarding Russian military bases were continuing.

He added: “There are contacts regarding Russian bases in Syria, among other things, to ensure the security of our citizens.”

He noted that “Russian bases have been and are a factor of stability in the region.”

This comes as two occupying army forces launched two new attacks on the Quneitra governorate in southwestern Syria on Thursday.

Journalist Fadi al-Isma’i told Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed that an Israeli army patrol consisting of seven military vehicles carried out an attack near the Kodna Dam on the Abu Qubais Hill. The patrol set off from the western Tel Ahmar base and withdrew without carrying out any attacks or inspections.

He added that the second patrol set off from the Adnaniya base in the central outskirts of Quneitra and headed towards the village of Umm al-Azm towards the Manzra Dam. A video released by the "Free Houran Gathering" showed the same patrol penetrating the town of Ruwaiheena in the Quneitra countryside.
