Former Chinese Agriculture Minister Sentenced to Death with Two Years
A court in China has sentenced the country's former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs to death with two years' suspension for accepting large-scale bribes. The verdict comes after the bribes were announced to be more than 268 million yuan (about 37.5 million dollars).
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: A court in China has sentenced former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Tang Renjian to death for accepting large-scale bribes and abusing his various positions between 2007 and 2024. According to the court ruling, Tang Renjian abused his job positions to help others with business matters, contracts and job transfers.

China's official news agency, Xinhua, reported that the value of the bribes he received, including cash and valuables, exceeded 268 million yuan (equivalent to about 37.5 million dollars).

Tang Renjian's suspended death sentence means that if he does not commit a new crime during the two-year suspension period, the sentence will be converted to life imprisonment, and his sentence may be further reduced if he behaves well.

The sentence is part of the Chinese government's broader efforts to crack down on corruption at the highest levels of government and administration.
