Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Monitoring: This feature will initially be available on Android devices in six languages (English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian and Arabic) and on iPhone in 19 different languages including Arabic, Dutch, English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese, with more languages to be added in the future.
Meta has announced that these translations are designed to protect users’ privacy and that the entire translation process is done on the user’s own device so that WhatsApp does not have access to the text of the messages.
Users can view the text in their preferred language by holding down on a message and selecting “Translate.” This feature is available in individual chats, group chats, and channel updates.
Android users will also be able to enable automatic translation for the entire chat thread so that future messages will be translated by default.
There is no word yet on whether translation support will be available on the WhatsApp web or Windows app, but users are advised to update their WhatsApp to get the feature as soon as it becomes available.
