Turkish Red Crescent promises to increase aid to earthquake victims in eastern Afghanistan

12 Sep 2025 - 20:03

The press office of the Afghan Red Crescent Society announced on Thursday (September 11) in a press release that Sheikh Hadith Shahabuddin Delawar, head of the Afghan Red Crescent Society, met with Naeemullah Karimi, head of the Turkish Red Crescent in Afghanistan, and the accompanying delegation.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) – Kabul: The head of the Afghan Red Crescent Society, in a meeting with Turkish Red Crescent officials in Afghanistan, emphasized the priority of addressing earthquake victims in the east of the country. In this meeting, the Turkish side promised to increase its humanitarian aid to support the affected families.

In this meeting, the two sides discussed and exchanged views on providing better services to those affected by the recent earthquake in the eastern provinces, strengthening cooperation, and increasing aid.

Mr. Delaware, while appreciating the cooperation and urgent assistance of the Turkish Red Crescent, said that returning the earthquake victims to normal life requires extensive and sustained humanitarian assistance.

On the other hand, Naeemullah Karimi, President of the Turkish Red Crescent, emphasized the deep relations between the two countries and stated: "We consider ourselves partners in every suffering and sorrow of the people of this land and will try to provide more assistance to support the affected families."

Turkish media have reported that Ankara is ready to send new shipments of humanitarian aid, including tents, food, and medical equipment, to Kabul in the coming days.

Last week, the first aid package from the Turkish Red Crescent reached the earthquake-stricken areas.

Turkey is one of the countries that stood by the victims in past crises, including the Paktika and Khost earthquakes.

Experts believe that the role of countries like Turkey in supporting the affected people is of vital importance, in a situation where domestic resources are insufficient to respond. Observers say that Ankara's promises indicate the continuation of humanitarian and political relations between the two countries. However, studies show that the continuity and systematic management of this aid, especially in the winter season, will determine the degree of success in alleviating the suffering of the affected people.
