Putin at the end of his visit to China: Ukraine's security cannot be guaranteed at the cost of Russia's security

4 Sep 2025 - 10:45

The Russian President emphasized at the end of his four-day visit to China: "Ukraine's security cannot be guaranteed at the cost of Russia's security. Moscow is against Ukraine's membership in NATO and we are not fighting to seize Ukrainian territory.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: At the end of his four-day visit to China, Russian President Vladimir Putin assessed the results of the visit as "positive" in a press conference, saying: "The working format in China provided an opportunity to meet with foreign colleagues in an informal setting, and the agreements reached are beneficial to both sides."

According to Sputnik, he added: "The documents approved during the visit to China are future-oriented. Global demand for energy is increasing, including in China and the Asia-Pacific region. After the completion of the Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline project, Russia will be able to export 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China annually.” Putin continued to call China “the driving force of the global economy” and emphasized Russia’s capacity to meet the country’s energy needs.
The Russian president also praised Xi Jinping’s proposed “world government” initiative, calling it a step towards strengthening positive relations between countries. “The unity of the countries gathered in China demonstrates confidence in achieving common goals. Despite the economic slowdown in the eurozone, the global economy continues to grow,” he said.
Regarding the Ukrainian crisis, Putin emphasized: “Ukraine’s security cannot be guaranteed at the expense of Russia’s security. Moscow opposes Ukraine’s membership in NATO, and we are not fighting to seize Ukrainian territory. I am ready to meet with Zelensky, but the question is how serious he is.”
He continued: “Zelensky’s term as president is over, and a meeting with him will not yield any results. Resolving the territorial issue in Ukraine requires holding a referendum and ending martial law. If a peaceful solution is impossible, Russia will pursue its goals by military means.”
Putin also warned against the transfer of frozen Russian assets to Ukraine, describing it as “a major blow to the global economy.” He called the situation in Ukraine’s reserves “critical,” saying, “Ukrainian armed forces are not capable of carrying out offensive operations, while Russian military groups are advancing from all directions during special military operations.”
The Russian president went on to mention the role of former US President Donald Trump in the possible negotiations, saying, “The Trump administration sincerely sought to find a solution to the Ukrainian conflict. I invited him to Moscow. If a serious meeting with Zelensky is planned, I am ready to attend it.”
Referring to the formation of the “general outlines of a multipolar world,” Putin clarified: “Being multipolar does not mean the emergence of new hegemons; "All countries should have equal rights." He called the German Chancellor's remarks "an unsuccessful attempt to deflect responsibility for the Ukrainian crisis." He concluded by emphasizing Russia's success in balancing trade relations with its partners and the need to resolve global economic disputes through negotiations, saying: "The Shanghai Cooperation Organization does not have a confrontational mission with any country. The West's tone in economic talks is unacceptable, and the US tariffs against Brazil are also a result of Washington's domestic circumstances, not the Ukrainian crisis."
